Join Sol Y Mano at Indigo & Violet Studio for a contemporary embroidery workshop!

In this beginning embroidery class, you will learn everything you need to complete your first embroidery project! We will cover four different stitches and step-by-step instructions for hand-embroidery, including how to transfer an image, prep your hoop and different finishing techniques.  Using a provided pattern design, you’ll select your own thread colors and favorite stitches to create a unique piece! Modifications to the pattern design are encouraged for more advanced or adventurous students. You will leave class with a stitch sampler, an in-progress embroidery piece to finish at home and a reference guide plus tools and materials. You’ll have the knowledge to finish your project and dive into making your own embroidery work — whether it’s another piece of wall art or embellishing your favorite denim jacket!

What to bring: Just yourself and a little bit of patience! No embroidery or sewing experience necessary. The studio is BYOB - feel free to bring beer, wine, or bubbly - we'll have wine glasses and corkscrews.

About our Instructor: Nora Schuchat is the textile artist + painter behind Sol Y Mano Studio (Sun and Hand Studio). Growing up in Colorado, Nora developed a deep love of the mountains and desert. In her art practice, she aims to evoke the feeling of those landscapes through color and texture. She is also drawn to geometric patterns and natural forms, and the ways the two interact and intersect. Now based in Chicago, Nora enjoys sharing her love of embroidery through teaching.
