Franken-Denim Repair Workshop - October 22
It's spooky season! Don't let your denim die. Frankenstein (mend) it instead!
Join us for a visible denim mending workshop with Nandi of Bliss Joy Bull!
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the art of denim repair, transforming those rips and tears into a conversation starter - Halloween Edition! Grab your spooky ripped-up jeans and let's make them wearable again.
- Dive into the basics of visible mending – no more hiding imperfections, let's celebrate them!
- Get creative with vibrant and patterned fabric scraps!
- Learn mending techniques, from basic stitches to decorative designs.
This class is great for rips and tears in knees, in particular. Past participants have also invisibly repaired the crotch/thigh area of their pants by selecting closely matching materials. All materials, including denim scraps, needles, and threads, will be provided. Just bring your old denim and a daring spirit! Thread snips and extra sashiko thread can be purchased after class.
Some sewing experience is recommended, but if you’re feeling adventurous, don’t hesitate to join! This class is all about embracing imperfections and turning them into something unique. Your denim will thank you, and you'll leave with skills that will have you looking at clothing repairs in a whole new light.

Meet our instructor, Nandi Duszynski:
Nandi got her start in designing and crafting at a young age. She attended design school at Iowa State University and completed her degree in fashion design at the Art Institute of NYC. Nandi moved back to the midwest after 4 years in New York, and has lived in Chicago since 2015.
Nandi started her business BLISS JOY BULL from a desire to reduce waste and use unwanted materials. In early 2021, Nandi started teaching sewing classes virtually. Over the years many people have come up to her during craft shows saying they don’t even know how to sew on a button. With that in mind, along with the knowledge of overproduction, overconsumption, and lack of sewing skills, Nandi developed a visible mending class. Nandi strives to make sewing simple, bringing joy to the clothing we wear by making it last longer.
