Stained Glass Jewelry Workshop - August 7

Regular price $90

Join us for this custom stained glass jewelry workshop with Molly of Glass.Brodz!!!

In this hands-on stained glass workshop, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how stained glass art is created and make your own small butterfly piece to take home. Molly (they/them) will begin with a short demonstration, walking you through the tools and process involved in creating stained glass. Attendees will choose from a variety of pre-cut glass pieces, available in different colors and textures, to mix and match into their own unique butterfly window piece. Attendees will foil and solder their chosen pieces together during the workshop to complete their finished product.

Attendees will be paired up during the soldering portion of the workshop to ensure everyone has an extra pair of eyes on the hot soldering iron while Molly circulates around the room, troubleshooting and helping out where needed. This is a great opportunity to work hands-on while learning new techniques in a relaxed and creative setting.

Molly will have blue surgical masks and nitrile gloves for attendees to use while soldering. If you wish to have a better-quality mask or gloves with heat resistance, please feel free to bring some with you! Soldering irons range from around 300 to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of holding this tool in your hands, try our jewelry/windchime class instead, where this step is optional. By signing up for this class, you are promising to treat Molly’s tools with respect and to be mindful while wielding this hot temperature in your hands.

What to Expect:

  • Learn the basics of stained glass with a focus on foiling and soldering
  • Choose from pre-cut butterfly wing and body pieces to put together your own colorful butterfly
  • Work in pairs to complete your stained glass project with guidance from Molly

Important Notes:

  • The pieces provided will be pre-cut and pre-ground in order to be ready for foiling and soldering. Molly does not bring their grinder to show the sanding part of the process, but will show a video of how that works, while explaining that portion of the demo.

Molly will also have finished stained glass jewelry and window hangings available for purchase during the event. They’re happy to chat about the craft, answer questions, or discuss custom commissions.

Meet our instructor: Molly Brodzeller of Glass.Brodz

Molly Brodzeller (they, them) is a stained glass artist living in Ravenswood, originally from Indianapolis, IN. They attended Indiana University and picked up the art again once the pandemic began. After learning in high school, Molly knew they would come back to stained glass eventually - and with more time at home - they felt excited to get their hands on more glass!

Check out their online shop and recent commission work here, and be sure to say hi on Instagram!
