Upcycling with Floral Embroidery Workshop - November 13
Spice up your gear with fall florals and Sew Choice!
Practice the basics of embroidery and learn how to upcycle a garment or accessory with Jean of Sew Choice. Have an old wardrobe favorite that needs a seasonal update, or an item with a stain?! This is the perfect way to add a handmade touch and give more life to an existing item in your closet. BYO garment (details below on the types of items that work best for this project) or choose from colorful and whimsical vintage fabric swatches provided in class.
We'll create floral embellishments using these embroidery techniques:
- Woven wheel and satin fill stitches
- Lazy daisy stitch
- French knots
- Straight stitch
Included in the cost of the class are floral design transfer sticker, 4" wooden embroidery hoop, fabric swatch, needle, and thread. Jean will lead-step-by-step demonstration on our projector and overhead camera for all guests to see and follow along with tiny stitched details. Prior embroidery experience welcome, but not required.
All of the materials are yours to take home at the conclusion of the workshop to continue stitching on your own. Most guests don't finish their entire embroidery project in class and feel empowered to create the rest on their own with Jean's hands-on guidance and detailed printed instructions.
*Note: If bringing in your own item we HIGHLY RECOMMEND a garment that is woven, not knit – such as a cotton/linen/flannel garment, canvas tote bag, or bandana. Avoid stretchy fabrics, leather, thick denim, small pouches or pockets. The inside/back of the fabric should be accessible for your hand to maneuver.
